The Nainital Literature Festival (NLF) is a carefully crafted bespoke festival. It aspires to be a distinguished platform that intertwines the rich cultural heritage of Nainital, Kumaun and the Himalayan region with National and global perspectives in literature, music and performing arts. It envisions fostering a celebration of diverse storytelling traditions, where local and global narratives converge, creating a space for interactive cross-cultural exchanges.
Through intimate conversations, performances, and workshops, NLF will explore the intersections of culture, identity, and creativity, offering a unique platform for local and global voices to converge.
Set in the picturesque Himalayan town of Nainital, the festival envisages to revive regional traditions while embracing global influences, offering a stage for both timeless and contemporary expressions in literature, music and art in various form.
The festival tagline, Sailing With Stories, embodies the dynamic fusion of nature's five elements and the five senses, The word Sailing represents the dynamic movement, signifying progress, evolution and continuity. It embodies the festival's spirit of navigating through the vast ocean of stories and ideas, growing and learning through the sharing of perspectives and coming together as a community to explore and celebrate stories. ‘Stories’ encompasses the diverse dimensions of the festival, including the festival itself, the various programming elements such as author talks and workshops, the conversations and exchanges between speakers, artists, readers and audiences. They are also the sensory experiences of food, music, books, and art. Most importantly, they represents the people - the audience, speakers, and artists - each bringing their unique perspectives to Nainital Literature Festival. Just as a sailboat navigates unknown waters, ‘Literature’ guides us through the uncharted territories of the mind and heart. The sailboat and book emblem symbolizes a journey through words, merging the expansive possibilities of literature with the boundless experience of sailing with stories.
Nidhi Sah is an artist and graphic designer from The National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. Over the last two decades, she has worked extensively as a book designer for leading national and international publishing houses with over fifty book titles under her belt. Two of the books designed by her have been recipients of the prestigious President’s Award in India while another received appreciation from the then Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh. Apart from book design, Nidhi has also done notable branding projects. Sah holds a Guinness World Record in the field of crochet. She is also a visiting faculty and guest lecturer at NID and various other design institutes across the country.
Digvijay Singh is a multifaceted creative force, acclaimed for his work as a designer, artist, and cultural ambassador. He is a BFA from from MS University and a textile design post-graduate from NID Ahmedabad. has received numerous awards, including Gen Next Designer at Lakolne Fashion Week and recognition from Vogue India and the British Council. His designs have dressed Bollywood and sports celebrities. Digvijay has explored the intersection of art and design through his "Dilida White" movement. He also shares his expertise as a visiting faculty member at leading design institutes.
