Syed Ali Hamid, a retired Professor of English, has written five books of poetry: _Autumn Rainbow, No Man’s Land, Desire, Ultimately, The Ontology of Desire and The Alchemy of Ageing._  Hamid’s Urdu translation of Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, _Boodha Aur Samandar_, was awarded by the Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy. He translates poetry from Hindi and Urdu into English and vice versa. His most interesting contribution to poetry are his Ghazals in English.
